Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has been skyrocketing to fame well before she was cast as Nakia in Black Panther. Debuting in Hollywood as Patsey in 12 Years A Slave, she has continued to show the world her amazing acting talents. While a date for a possible Black Panther sequel hasn’t been announced yet, you can see more of one of your favorite Wakandians on the big screen.
Lupita Nyong’o has been cast as the assassin in a remake of John Woo’s The Killer. The original movie premiered in 1989. Nancy Wang Yuen, the author of Reel Inequality: Hollywood Actors and Racism, made the announcement on Twitter at the end of April.
The assassin, originally played by Chow Yun-fat in the original 1989 version, has to now protect the life of an innocent bystander that was blinded during a hit by accident. While this sounds like a redemption story, it seems like the original shows that someone gets double-crossed by someone, so the film should make for a great movie experience.
I’m excited to see what Lupita Nyong’o can bring to this role. What I love about her is that she has the talent to carry these amazing kick-ass black female characters. She continues to show black women in a light that Hollywood has never shown before. In real life, she is a carefree, fun person who inspires us all to live our best life.
Break a leg, Lupita. Not that you need it. I’m sure you’re gonna do awesome in this role! Can’t wait to see Nakia in the Black Panther sequel, too! Wakanda Forever!
